Rory,

Grow some balls, put on your big boy pants and drink some damn good beer.

Stone's marketing slogan "You aren't worthy" is beyond genius. You're suggestion that Greg Koch hire a PR firm for help is beyond laughable. There isn't a PR firm out there smart enough to come up with such a slogan as "You aren't worthy."

Who would have guessed that beer with it's own attitude and put-downs towards ignorant beer drinkers, like yourself, would not only sell beer but keep drinkers coming back for more?!

As the saying goes, "behind every bad ass slogan is a phenomenally bad ass beer to back it up." A beer that, I believe, could possibly spawn a religious experience should one choose to drink it.

Yes I am "stone clone" and Rory, it's ok if you don't get it, you will truly never be worthy enough anyways.

jeff,

i really like his attitude toward mass market "morons". he believes that bud/miller/etc is crap, so he says so. people should have enough self-confidence not to shy away from such things. maybe he's right, and "fizzy yellow beer" *is* crap by the standards of people who drink it, if they decide to try craft beer. maybe he's wrong and they'll always love it. who cares?

i don't want a businessman to hold my hand or kiss my ass. i want them to make quality products and conduct themselves honestly. the consumer base should be composed of adults. hopefully they can make their own decisions and buy what they like, rather than relying on large companies to justify their insecurities with marketing ("if you're a MAN, drink this light BEER!" etc).

and of course, this guy has a good business going. the craft beer industry is big enough now that greg koch doesn't need to worry about converting a single "fizzy yellow beer" drinker to stay afloat. even so though, i think getting offended that some guy doesn't like macro beers and thinks the drinkers are making a mistake shouldn't be a consideration for an adult consumer deciding where to spend his or her money.

Jeff - I suggest you check out a movie on Netflix or elsewhere called Beer Wars. AB and MillerCoors are jamming many great craft beers from getting to as wide an audience as possible through their distributors. Greg has every reason to be pissed at yellow beer makers as they are trying to use their size to kill American craft beer.

Jeff, I think you hit the nail on the head. Don't try this beer. It will be your loss. Definitely, don't visit the brewery and bistro in Escondido. You wouldn't want to have good food with your good beer. As mentioned above, they serve beer other than their own.

But, I will suggest reading the back of a bottle such as the Arrogant Bastard. If you aren't entertained, then don't bother.

"yellow nonsense"
"poser green bottle imports"
"poser clear bottles"

I was interested in trying some Stone beers until I got a sense of this guy's arrogance. It was a real turn off. Sometimes I like fizzy yellow stuff, and obviously so do a lot of other people. He certainly isn't going to win any customers by essentially calling them idiots...its a counter-productive mentality. More people will try his beers if he is friendly and open to them. Whether his motive is better sales or just educating people on "better" beer, a better attitude toward the mass market "morons" would serve him well.

Somebody suggest a good PR firm so that this guy can sit down and take some notes on how to give an interview.

Disappointing.
