ESPN is reporting that Notre Dame is set to hire Brian Kelly as the new head coach of the Irish. Kelly coached Cincinnati to a 12-0 record this year. The Bear Cats are set to play in the Sugar Bowl against Florida on New Years day.
Here is what Cincinnati’s best wide receiver, Mardy Gilyard, thinks about Kelly’s decision:
“I don’t like it. I feel there was a little lying in the thing. I feel like he’d known this the whole time. Everybody knows Notre Dame’s got the money. I kind of had a gut feeling he was going to stay just because he told me he was going to be here.”
In three seasons at Cincinnati, Kelly’s teams went 34-6, won back to back Big East titles and received two straight BCS berths.

Kelly is the latest coaching genius to emerge from the BIG East and is the real deal. Unlike Rich Rod, his system will fit into Notre Dame immediately and the coaching swap will make them a powerhouse faster than the time that it takes the ink to dry on the few million dollar checks that were written. The bad news is that we SC fans will need once again to hunker down and actually cheer at the Notre Dame game. The good news is that the Notre Dame win won’t also hurt our strength of schedule.
