New Fiesta Bowl trophy makes us cry

Honestly, if they don’t change this trophy before next year (when the Fiesta is the BCS Championship), I don’t even want USC to win the BCS. I don’t want this monstrosity anywhere near Heritage Hall.
I’m quite positive this is what Carrot Top and Liza Minnelli’s lovechild would look like, if it took trophy form.

From an article about the jeweler that made the trophy (not my words): The trophy itself is stunning. It stands 46 inches tall and is 15 1/2 inches at its widest point, weighing nearly 200 pounds. The base and platform are carved from five different shades of marble. The players are created in sterling silver and the center column is lapis with 18 carat gold. The football is also 18 carat with an enameled Fiesta Bowl logo; 2,400 diamonds are encrusted across the stripe of the ball.
The creative team at Molina spent more than 2,000 hours on the project.

keep the trophy in arizona then. the designers of the trophy were given the go ahead, to design this. Many other jewelers in the world would be envious to have the same oppurtunity.

Some of this stuff is sooooo funny. I was a member of the team of Jewelers at Molina who designed and built the trophy.
I think I set at least 2000 small diamonds in the stripes. The football is made of at least 40 oz. of 18 kt gold.
The football players themselves are made of Bronze with I think silver plating. We were afraid that in silver they could not handle the weight they support.
The draperies are 18 kt gold and all of the marble was hand cut really nice stuff.
It contains 5 layers of desert landscacpe with plants and animals included in 5 colors of gold.
The trophy is for sure wayyyyyyyyy over the top. ( I love the Liza comment) but this is the kind of house thast Molina is. All of the work we did there was verrrrrry high end.
I can say we worked 24-7 for weeks to complete it by the coaches press conference.
It was quite a life experience.
Some love it some hate it.

That trophy is amazing! I am old pals with the designer of the Fiesta Trophy. He spent every waking hour on it and deligently worked with Molina team… He stayed up all hours of the night. This trophy is a an act of genius…he is a genius artist.
